CARE & MAINTENANCE

To ensure the greatest possible enjoyment from your furniture and the longest lifespan, it is important that it is properly looked after. The following information will help you care for your products in the best possible way.

Please note, natural materials like wood and leather will have unique variations in colour, grain and natural blemishes. Timber will naturally expand and contract due to temperature and humidity. To ensure your products remain in their original condition we strongly advise that you avoid placing them in direct heat or sunlight, damp environments or near areas or extreme temperate changes (heaters, humidifiers, etc.)

TIMBER

Although treated, timber is a natural product that will respond to its environmental conditions.

We recommend you avoid extreme variation in temperature and humidity, as well as contact with liquids and heat. Slab or underfloor heating can be damaging to solid timber products as the heat causes the bottom side to dry out differently to the top which can cause bowing, warping or cracking. We advise that you do not keep solid timber pieces on underfloor heating.

The tone of the timber will alter over time with exposure to UV light, please protect timber from direct or reflected sunlight.

We advise to regularly wipe timber to remove dust and dirt, and to wipe up spills immediately with a damp cloth, if liquids are left to sit on timber surfaces it will penetrate and may cause staining. Any acid substances need to be wiped immediately as these will cause stains if left to penetrate.

When cleaning, a microfiber cloth or similar is best, and like most natural or treated products when daily cleaning, its best to use a damp, well wrung out cloth and use a mild detergent on stains. When cleaning, do not use cleaners or polishes as these may cause permanent damage or colour variation to your furniture. Ensure you avoid cleaning products containing denatured alcohol, with an acidic base, or containing ammonia.

Take care when placing or moving unglazed ceramics and other items with an irregular base finish as they may scratch the surface.

Depending on the position of the piece and the conditions within your home, we recommend treating with a nourishing oil once or twice a year. This is an easy at home process.

RATTAN

To keep Rattan hydrated, looking its best and to prevent it from drying out spray or wipe down with a damp cloth every 6-12 months.

FABRIC

Vacuum fabrics on a weekly basis to remove dust, dirt and any loose feathers.  Treat spills and stains as soon as possible by wiping with a damp cloth, do not treat with chemical cleaners or scrub as this can alter the fabrics appearance. We recommend contacting a specialist fabric cleaner to treat difficult stains.

Direct sunlight may cause colour change and aging of your fabric, for best performance we recommend positioning your furniture out of direct sunlight. Ensure you avoid cleaning products containing denatured alcohol, with an acidic base, or containing ammonia

LEATHER

Leather is a natural product characterised by the unique tone and individual markings that the animal has acquired during its life which may include creases and stretchmarks, scars and insect bites.

As a note, some softening and stretching of the leather is to be expected with use.

Leather is a natural product and as such still requires care and maintenance. Leather is also sensitive to heat and direct sunlight, avoid these types of conditions to ensure the leather does not fade or loose moisture. Wipe leather with a clean, damp cloth on a weekly basis to remove dust and dirt particles that can work their way into the hide and abrade the surface.

To treat difficult stains, we recommend contacting a specialist leather cleaner who can also assist with regular treatment of the leather to nourish and prolong the life of leather upholstery. Ensure you avoid cleaning products containing denatured alcohol, with an acidic base, or containing ammonia.

CUSHIONS

Regularly shape and rotate loose cushions where applicable to maintain their shape and loft. It is natural that cushion fillings will settle, and seat foams will soften over time. Scatter inserts can be invigorated by laying them out in the sun to air. While specialised cushions have been selected to contain feathers in compartments, occasionally feather quills can pierce through the covers. They can be simply removed by pulling the feather

COATED METAL

Regularly wipe metal with a damp soft cloth to remove particles which can abrade the surface with wear. Avoid contact with liquid, heat and direct sunlight which may cause the coating to fade in colour over time. Abrasive cleaning products are not recommended. Avoid physical contact with sharp or abrasive materials as these may cause damage or scratches to the coating. Take care when placing or moving unglazed ceramics and other items with an irregular base finish as they may scratch the surface.

COATED METAL – OUTDOOR

Products specified for outdoor use have an additional primer layer to assist with the metal protection, it is not a corrosion protection in its own right. The components coated are produced in either aluminium or mild steel. The products are then coated to make the surface resistant and suitable for use in exterior environments. Minor corrosion spots may occur under table tops, seats and bases, these do not affect the structural integrity of the product and are not seen as defects.

Whilst every care is taken to provide the most suitable finish according to the use and the environment of the product, care needs to be taken to ensure against scratching, scuffing and chipping. While every effort is made to protect against natural conditions, fading or corrosion as a result of direct use in harsh outdoor or seafront locations cannot be guaranteed. Items placed outdoor unfortunately cannot be guaranteed against natural fading.

MARBLE

We use natural marble in our products, as natural stone is renowned for its unique aesthetic and character. We provide a light protective coating/sealant, however marble is a naturaly product and naturally a porous material, making it susceptible to staining as it has an increased absorbency.

It is essential that no liquids are left to sit on marble as they will penetrate the stone and cause staining. Wipe up spills immediately with a damp cloth.  Clean regularly with warm soapy water, using a small amount of crème cleaner with a soft sponge or cloth for stubborn stains.

Acidic liquids (orange juice, wine etc) will mark the surface and these should be avoided as they react with marble and can deteriorate the finish.

Ensure you avoid cleaning products containing denatured alcohol, with an acidic base, or containing ammonia.

BRASS

Our brass products are finished with a clear coat of lacquer to prevent tarnishing.  Gently wipe clean with a soft cloth on a regular basis to remove dust and dirt particles.

GLASS

Regular cleaning of glass and mirrored surfaces with a clean lint free cloth is advised to keep the surface in its best condition. We recommend wiping the surface with a sponge or a soft, microfiber or similar cloth. Most dirt can be removed by slightly wiping the surface. Make sure to clean the entire surface, not just selected areas

Ordinary glass cleaner can be used to remove any grease marks (fingerprints, etc.). Do not use scouring agents, corrosive, acidic or alkaline cleaning agents, as these can attack the surface of the glass and cause scratches.

If the glass surface is allowed to remain wet for longer periods of time, limescale residues may form. Therefore, it is best to wipe up any liquids as quickly as possible.

OUTDOOR CARE

OUTDOOR

For longevity please keep furniture in covered outdoor areas. Avoid direct sunlight and harsh weather conditions. Timber, steel and outdoor fabric will naturally discolour with age and timber leaching may occur over time in an outdoor setting. For all timber products we recommend gently sanding the surface and applying a UV-stable exterior grade oil such as decking oil every six months. Whilst every care is taken to provide the most suitable finish according to the use and the environment the product will be subjected to, our can’t guarantee finish against fading or rusting as a result of direct use in harsh coastal locations.
